Enhanced functionality for AusPat - "eDossier"

12 Aug 2010

AusPat is IP Australia's online search database, currently hosting Australian patent data dating back to 1920. AusPat was released in 2008 and included the ability to develop customised search results, allowing users to view a wide range of discrete data elements for each patent application.

Since released AusPat has progressively been enhanced. An upcoming enhancement, eDossier, will provide electronic access to a suite of documents relating to the prosecution of patent applications dating back to 2006 and which are open for public inspection (OPI).

The eDossier will show documents which includes (but is not limited to):

  • requests for examination
  • examination reports
  • responses to examination reports
  • amendments and search results

The capability will provide an instant view of the documents and their status, which will result in greater efficiency and savings for customers. Previously, such information needed to be purchased from IP Australia and would take up to 7 days to be supplied as paper copies.

To accommodate the new functionality IP Australia has updated its privacy statement in line with the privacy principles and OPI requirements of the Patents Act 1990.

IP Australia is excited about the eDossier enhancement to AusPat and further guidance and communications will be provided to customers closer to the launch in early 2011.
