Enhancements to AusPat now live

12 Dec 2011

New enhancements to AusPat, IP Australia's online Patent search database, look to expand IP Australia's eDossier service, enabling customers to be notified of changes in Patent case files.

AusPat Notification Service

We have implemented the "AusPat Notification Service", which provides you and other interested parties with the ability to receive early advice on any changes to patent case files in eDossier.

eDossier is a functionality within AusPat, which provides electronic access to a suite of documents relating to the prosecution of patent applications dating back to 2006 and which are Open to Public Inspection (OPI).

This feature will allow interested parties to 'subscribe' to a particular case file (or case files) and be advised via email when both incoming and outgoing documents are added to eDossier for that patent case.

The notification service aims to continue the evolution of  AusPat, our online patent search facility, and will impart valuable benefits to customers including early insight into, and closer monitoring of cases of interest.

Prior Art Lodgement Service - Making a Section 27/28 Submission

A second enhancement to AusPat will provide you with the ability to provide relevant prior art documents for consideration during the examination process via a link in AusPat. Under sections 27 and 28 of the Patents Act 1990 customers and members of the public may provide to the Commissioner of Patents at IP Australia information showing that an invention is not new (novel) or does not involve an inventive (or innovative) step.

This will provide an alternate means for lodgement of documents under Section 27 and Section 28 of the Patents Act 1990 and extends upon the Peer to Patent scheme. The initiative aims to further engage the community in the patent examination process.

Both features are now available in AusPat. Visit the eDossier page for more information.
