International conferences and seminars

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), manages a wide range of conferences, seminars, meetings and workshops around the world. A full list of these events is available on the WIPO web site.

In October 2000 WIPO established the Intergovernmental Committee (IGC) on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources(GR), Traditional Knowledge(TK) and Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCE).

Made up of the Member States of WIPO, the IGC is considering the role of IP in the protection of TK, TCEs and GRs against misappropriation and misuse. It also considers the role of IP in benefit sharing for GRs and TK.

We take an active role in the IGC. In consultation with other relevant government departments, including the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Attorney General's Department (AGD), Australia plays a significant role in shaping these international discussions.

The objectives of the IGC are developing policy and capacity building.
