Salary

As an Examiner of Patents your starting salary in February 2009 will be $61,360. The Examiner of Patents salary range is $61,360 to $85,904. Currently the employer contribution to the default superannuation fund (PSSAP) is 15.4%.

Salary progression is based on annual increments, but includes the opportunity for advancement at certain points if you display satisfactory progress in the expanding aspects of the job. Progression to the upper salary levels requires you to accept patent applications without supervision and is subject to a further performance assessment.

Having achieved the authority to accept applications, examiners who are assessed as fully effective in all aspects of patent examination duties are able to advance to the top of the examiner pay scale.

Opportunities also exist for promotion to supervisory and management positions within patent examination and other areas of IP Australia.
