Home IP Australia Centenary

Friday 13 February 2004 marked 100 years since the Australian Patent Office was formed to become the federal government agency responsible for patent registration and rights. In the years to follow, the office also took responsibility for trade marks and designs systems. Today, IP Australia is proud to acknowledge our 100 years of service to Australia.
To celebrate this special occasion, IP Australia planned some exciting activities for 2004:
- We produced a commemorative book, titled "Imagination
- 100 Years of Bright Ideas in Australia". The book showcased
Australian inventions, icons and innovators between 1904 - 2004, and was
launched at a gala dinner on 25 March 2004;
- IP Australia also worked with Sensis on the 2004
Telstra White Pages covers, which featured the theme of "Our Innovators". The covers highlighted innovative Australians from each of the directory cover regions;
- Australia Post released a commemorative stamp
issue on the theme of Australian Innovations marking the IP Australia
Centenary. Five landmark Australian inventions were featured on their
own stamp; and
- There were a number of other exciting activities undertaken throughout the year — click here for more details.
Why not also take a tour of our pictorial history
from 1904 - 2004.
Sunday 2 July 2006 marked the 100th anniversary of the first federally registered trade mark in Australia. To learn more about the trade mark centenary celebrations, and the history of trade marks in Australia, click here.
