The Register of Designs

The particulars of designs registered under the Designs Act 2003 are embodied in a series of electronic databases. Data is extracted from these electronic databases and appears to the public via the AU Designs Data Searching (ADDS) system and also the Searchable Australian Official Journal of Designs.

Extracts from the Register

For evidentiary provisions, a signed copy of, or signed extract from the Register, obtained from the Registrar, is admissible in any proceedings as if it were the original. An extract will provide the particulars of the design. Should you require an extract from the Register for legal, commercial and/or other purposes, a copy is available upon request.

Applications for Publication of a design

Under the provisions of Designs Act 2003 it is possible to request Registration or Publication of a design. The particulars of applications that request Publication will not appear on the Register. The particulars of these design applications, that meet the requirements for Publication, will be published in the Australian Official Journal of Designs and also appear on the AU Designs Data Searching (ADDS) system.
