TM Headstart is an online service that can help you determine the suitability of your proposed trade mark for registration.

TM Headstart can help you to quickly identify any barriers that could prevent you from registering your proposed trade mark.

TM Headstart service will not help you to choose or develop a trade mark and cannot provide legal or business advice.

Checklist before using TM Headstart

  • Have you decided on a trade mark?
  • Do you know the goods or services you want to use your trade mark on?
  • Will we be able to contact you (by phone or e-mail) within the next 5 working days during business hours?
  • Are you prepared to pay the entry fee, understanding that you will need to pay a second part fee if you decide to complete the filing process for your trade mark?
  • Can you pay your fees online using Mastercard or Visa?
  • Are you aware that your filing date will not be determined until after completion of the TM Headstart process?
  • Do you know the limitations of using TM Headstart?
  • Have you read the terms and conditions?

Apply using TM Headstart

You should consider what to include before submitting your request.

After you apply using TM Headstart

If you choose to continue with the trade mark application after the initial assessment you will then be asked to make a Part 2 fee payment.
