H.V. McKay Victorian Patent 4006 lodged 24 March 1885
The opening up of the land encouraged early innovation in agricultural machinery.
H.V. McKay was the inventor of the Stripper harvester whose Sunshine agricultural
machinery manufacturing works grew to be the largest in Australia with exports
to many overseas countries. By the age of 19, McKay with his family had built
and successfully field tested the stripper harvester, a machine which could
strip, thresh and clean grain in one operation. His invention attracted a premium
from the Victorian government and he set up business. In 1894 he developed and
then patented an improved versionSunshine.
