IP seminar in Beijing

IP Australia and China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) held a very successful seminar on Australia’s intellectual property system at the China Intellectual Property Training Center in Beijing on 29 October 2008.

For more information on the seminar and to download the presentations, click here.

This information has been developed by IP Australia to assist Australian traders and members of the public who wish to learn more about the intellectual property (IP) system in China.

Before trading overseas, businesses should undertake an IP audit to accurately assess what needs to be protected. In particular, it is crucial to exercise due diligence and develop a comprehensive IP strategy before entering the Chinese market. It may be necessary to look at different options for protecting IP compared to what may be appropriate in Australia.

Remember:

  • Do your homework - research into local operations is crucial;
  • Make sure you get basic protection of your IP by registering it in China - Australian IP firms with Chinese expertise can help you;
  • Develop strategies to protect your IP that are tailored to your situation and the unique challenges provided by the Chinese IP environment.

View the case studies and fact sheets provided on this website for information to help you think about an IP strategy for China including protection of patents, trade marks, industrial designs, plant breeders rights and copyright.
