Australian Designs Office Examination Manual
The Australian Designs Office Examination Manual is a reference tool for designs
examiners within IP Australia. It sets out procedural and legal matters relevant
to the examination of design applications under the Designs Act. The manual
is not a user guide for designs applicants.

Australian Designs Office Manual of Practice and Procedure (2003 Act)
The Australian Designs Office Manual of Practice and Procedure (2003 Act) is
under construction. Material is presently available on formalities in Part 1,
and the content in Part 2 includes searching, examination and some other practices.
Further information is under development.
Under the 2003 Act examination only occurs after registration of a design and
only on request of the registered owner or a third party.
The 2003 Act applies where the design application was filed on or after the
commencement of the Designs Act 2003 on 17 June 2004 or was filed before that
date and later converted to an application under the 2003 Act.

Please Note the Australian Designs Office Examination Manual
(1906 Act) only applies to Design Applications which were filed before
the commencement of the Designs Act 2003 in June 2004 and which have
not been converted to applications under the Designs Act 2003.
