Benefits of IP training
Market demand
We funded the development of these training products because research showed that businesses, particularly small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), wanted some form of accredited IP training. They didn't want a full qualification in IP, but a suite of training options from which they could pick and choose products based on individual needs.
Critical skills for business
Developing skills in IP are just as important to a future business owner as developing skills in financial or legal administration. It's just that up until recently it was not possible to undertake business-focussed accredited training in IP.
Learning outcomes have been designed around the practical knowledge SMEs require to protect and profit from their IP. For example, building knowledge of the trade mark system to help SMEs protect one of their most valuable assets - their brand.
Critical offering for training providers
Our investment in this project extends well beyond the units and skill sets. Effort has also been directed at removing barriers to entry for registered training organisations (RTOs), namely in the area of training delivery. We have funded the development of implementation guidance materials (facilitation and assessment kits) and will provide them to RTOs at no charge.
RTOs can also stand to benefit because the units are:
- A valuable commercial product because there's quantifiable demand for IP training.
- A low-cost-to-entry value proposition given the extensive range of resources IP Australia has developed.
- Adding value and marketability to business qualifications because IP knowledge is a critical business competency.
- Our resources are free of charge.
