ur webinar series about Intellectual Property (IP) and why it matters to accountants has got off to flying start – with the first presentation attracting almost one hundred and sixty participants.

The webinar series created by us and hosted by CPA Australia aims to help inform CPA members about important IP topics.

Presented by Professor Andrew Christie from Melbourne Law School, the first webinar outlined to attendees on the fundamentals of IP, including the commercial significance of intangible assets and options for commercially exploiting IP rights.

The second webinar presented by John Kenny about the accountant’s role in a multidisciplinary team also provoked some stimulating conversation.

The next webinar to be held on 29 April about the tax treatment of IP will be presented by Brian Richards – just in time for the end of financial year!

The following topics will be addressed in future webinars beginning early next financial year:

  • the importance of business models within IP governance
  • corporate structures and IP governance
  • research and development deductions
  • valuation of IP
  • accounting treatment of IP.
