Applying for a provisional application is optional. It is a simple and fast way to establish a priority date, which is the date your patent application is first filed, while you decide whether to continue the patenting process. Your provisional application will lapse after 12 months.

When you file your application, the invention title and applicant name will be published in the Australian Official Journal of Patents. However, we will not publish any technical or scientific details of your invention.
