The Australian Poultry Industries Association (APIA) Free Range Certification Program was developed to create a national industry standard for free range poultry meat that addresses the animal welfare concerns held by consumers and is wholly focused on chicken and turkey meat.

APIA Free Range Certification covers the following:

  • Housing of poultry
  • Approval of processing plants
  • Compliance with the National Animal Welfare Standards for the Chicken Meat Industry and the National Farm Biosecurity Manual for Chicken Growers
  • Farming standards for meat chickens covering the range, inside the sheds
  • The Chickens
  • Catching and transport
  • Processing
