Home Patents Patent Search Strategy Project
Better access to Patent Data
IP Australia has initiated a program to provide better access to patent data for inventors, researchers and IP professionals in Australia and around the world.
The Patent Search Strategy Project will deliver a new and improved search facility
that will ultimately provide electronic access to all Australian patent data.
What we've done
AusPat, the new search system for Australian patents is now available. AusPat provides a single point of enquiry for all of IP Australia's online patent records and delivers up to 180 unique pieces of information on each patent and patent application through an easy to use interface. AusPat v1.1 released in July 2008 added comprehensive information on patent applications under Opposition.
What we're working on
Subscription service to patent bibliographic and status data with daily updates
Scanning of patent specifications - Long term project to scan and produce searchable versions of all Australian patent specifications, working backwards from now to 1904.
e-Register - Search, browse and print information from the Australian Patent Register.
e-Journal - Search, browse and print information from AU Journals.
Full text search of specification data - Providing the ability to search the entire text of Australian patents initially from 1979 (and eventually for all patents) from a single web-based search page.
Subscription service to patent specifications with weekly updates
Longer term, IP Australia will offer e-Case functionality that will provide public access to case files that are deemed Open for Public Inspection.
