Australian Patent Office Manual of Practice and Procedure

Purpose

 

The Manual is a reference manual for patent examiners and defines the authorised current practice that applies to the searching and examination of national and international applications, and associated actions. The Manual is not a user guide for patent applicants.

The Manual is organised in six volumes:

1.            International

2.            National

3.            Oppositions, Disputes and Extensions

4.            Classification, Searching and Information Technology Procedures

5.            PAMS Examiner’s Reference

6.            PERP (Patent Examiner’s Report Processing)

 

Access and Security

 

All staff have access to the Manual.

 

The first 3 volumes (1. International, 2.National, 3. Oppositions, Disputes and Extensions) are made available to the public under IP Australia’s information publication scheme.  Volumes 4, 5 and 6 relate to internal processes and systems and are not available to the public.
