Stakeholder consultation on the Exposure Draft Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill 2017 and Regulations (‘draft legislation’) closed on 4 December 2017.
The draft legislation proposed measures to implement aspects of the Government’s response to the Productivity Commission’s inquiry into Australia’s intellectual property (IP) arrangements. The draft legislation also includes amendments to strengthen plant breeder’s rights enforcement, streamline a number of processes for the IP rights we administer, and make a number of technical improvements to the legislation.
We received 19 non-confidential submissions along with a number of confidential submissions (which are not commented on here). We have considered all feedback and thank everyone who provided submissions on the draft legislation.
We have now released our proposed response to this consultation detailing further changes, other outcomes and reasoning.
