Since January 2014 approximately 97% of all design applications have been filed electronically.
A new design application filed via eServices is immediately allocated an application number in the format of YYYYNNNNN, for example 201412345.
Following feedback from customers concerning application numbers on notices being inconsistent with eServices, the design application number format used on automatically system generated notices has recently been amended from a previous format of NNNNN/YYYY to YYYYNNNNN.
Users of eServices will be aware that eServices only accepts application numbers in the format of YYYYNNNNN. An error message will be displayed if an application number is entered using the NNNNN/YYYY format when retrieving design details.
The AU Designs Data Searching system (ADDS) only accepts application numbers in the format of YYYYNNNNN when searches are conducted.
Customers are advised to quote the application number in this format in any correspondence submitted to IP Australia.
The Australian Official Journal of Designs publishedon the IP Australia website still displays application numbers in the format of NNNNN/YYYY. A program of work is underway at IP Australia to review current and future IP Right search and discovery capabilities. This work will include all journals. This will be the only remaining inconsistency with the number format for Designs until this work is finalised.
