Mediation experience

I was accredited as a mediator by the Victorian Bar in March 1993 under the Victorian Bar’s Mediator Accreditation Scheme. Since 2003 mediation has been my principal area of practice. I am currently appointed to conduct mediations in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Victorian Small Business Commission. Since becoming a Nationally Accredited Mediator with the Victorian Bar Association in 1992, I have conducted over 3000 mediations, mostly in the commercial and business areas.

Mediation qualifications

Nationally Accredited Mediator, Bond University –1993

Advanced Mediator, LEADR – 1997

Fellow, Resolution Institute (formerly IAMA) - 2009

Specialist experience and qualifications

Patents, trade marks & designs

As both a barrister and mediator I have been involved in a number of matters involving copyright and designs. My approach to mediation facilitates the parties gaining clarity about their thinking, rights and values and being able to make often difficult decisions.

Additional information

I have an expertise in managing difficult or complex matters. I have done a great deal of training in Australia and overseas to understand the nature and impact of conflict on decision making to support party self-determination. I have also developed an understanding and skill in not only active listening but in deeper and compassionate listening.

I have also been actively involved in capacity building and decision making for 25 years through my role as Chairman and Board member of several community organisations. My role has often involved a process of facilitating difficult and complex decision making. It has always involved an expansion in the skill and capability of the organisation or community. Since 2011 I have used these skills in peacebuilding and community engagement and development within Aboriginal Communities.

In 2009 I was awarded an OAM for services to the community.
