John is an internationally accredited mediator and has practised as a chartered accountant for over 20 years, John regularly mediates in Australia and also Hong-Kong particularly in cases referred to Mediation by the High Court under PD31. He is a registered tax agent and sits on Civil and Administrative Tribunals.

John is on the HK International Arbitration Centre mediation panel and became an accredited mediator in Australia in 2008. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; Fellow of the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia and graded Arbitrator; Fellow of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration and panel mediator. He is appointed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants as Expert Determiner, Arbitrator and Mediator for financial/ commercial disputes including partnership disputes. He has been a Supreme Court Expert Witness. He is on the Single List of External Mediators for the Magistrate’s Court in Victoria, one of only for non-lawyers to have been appointed.

John is also the Chair of the ADR Committee of LawAsia and a former director of a major State owned Water Authority where he also chaired its Risk and Audit Committee. He is currently the Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee of the Victorian Department of Environment Land Water and Planning, and a board member of Film Victoria

Mediation qualifications

Internationally qualified Mediator gaining initial accreditation in Hong Kong through the HK Law Society mediator’s course. He is a registered mediator in Hong Kong; an NMAS experience qualified Mediator in Australia and regularly mediates in technology related disputes.

He is a Fellow of the Resolution Institute and has recently had his accreditation renewed for a further two years.

Specialist experience and qualifications

John has degrees in Engineering, Economics and law.

He has extensive commercial and accounting experience gained over more than 30 years in industry and banking. He is a former partner of global accounting firm KPMG having worked internationally. He is a permanent resident of Hong Kong. John specialises in appropriate dispute resolution with extensive mediation experience and an extremely high resolution rate as Mediator.

John is the Managing Director of a specialist security and risk consulting firm Stratica which is a Qualified Security Assessor and card Payments Forensic Investigator, one of only 18 firms globally approved by the global card brands to undertake these specialist assessments and investigations.

John is a member of the ICC Banking Commission Techniques and Standards Committee has oversight of UCP 600, DOCDEX BPO (Bank Payment Obligations) etc., a Qualified Security Assessor with designated specialisation as a Forensic Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He regularly acts as an expert determiner and also mediator in shareholder, company valuation and ICT commercial disputes.

John has an extremely high resolution rate at over 95% of all mediations for which he has conducted mediation sessions.

He is also an expert in cybersecurity, being a Qualified Security Assessor accredited by the Payment Card Industry Council and and is the CEO of a specialists Cybersecurity and on line fraud forensic investigation firm, and the only Australian based Payments Forensic Investigator approved by the global card brands (Payment Card Industry Council being Visa MasterCard etc.)

Most mediations he conducts relate to technology disputes whether amongst shareholders or over technological performance or customer disputes as to fitness for purpose.
