We’ve improved the plant breeder’s rights manual

An updated PBR Manual was released on 2 April.

We’ve released a new plant breeder’s rights (PBR) Manual of Practice and Procedure, effective from 2 April.

The manual is a helpful guide for qualified persons (QPs), intellectual property (IP) rights professionals working with PBR, and customers.

Its comprehensive update offers clear, detailed instructions and easy access to technical information to improve the user experience for customers and IP Australia examiners.

The updated manual will make the examination processes more consistent and transparent, as part of our ongoing work to improve the quality and efficiency of our PBR examination services.

What’s changed?

Key updates include:

  • clearer and more detailed procedural guidance for examining PBR
  • illustrative examples showing the principles of the PBR system
  • a repository of PBR technical information for IP rights professionals.

We hope the updates will provide our customers with better insights into the PBR examination process.

The PBR Manual will be regularly reviewed and updated and this update does not change any practices or procedures.

This update was a recommendation of the PBR Reform program.
