Patents Fees

Issue summary

Applicants are required to maintain their IP rights by paying renewal/continuation fees. These fees generally are charged annually and maintain the right for a further one year. Processing of renewal/continuation fees and monitoring of the relevant deadlines can be a significant cost for IP rights holders.

Reducing the frequency with which renewal fees must be paid has the potential to save time and money for IP rights holders.

Comments

This issue has been closed because it is inconsistent with the PC’s recent recommendation (and the associated item 12 on the register) and the Streamlining proposal (item 61 on the register).
