Understanding the economic impact of plant breeder's rights in Australia

In partnership with Swinburne University of Technology, this economic research report examines the costs and benefits of plant breeder’s rights (PBR) in Australia.

Summary

Using data collected from a survey of Australian organisations with PBR, this report provides a descriptive analysis on the cost of pursuing a PBR and its importance in commercialisation and incentives to invest in new varieties.

This report was commissioned by IP Australia to provide more information on the economic circumstances of PBR including the rates of commercialisation of new plant varieties as well as the costs incurred by users in obtaining a PBR.
