We provide a variety of bulk data products that contain bibliographic and image data captured in our databases when an application for an intellectual property (IP) right is made or updated.
To order any of our bulk data products and to view our terms and conditions, see our bulk data products order form. Please note that bulk data is supplied in XML format and requires a purpose built database system, which is not available from us.
Online search for IP rights
Our freely available online search facilities are:
- Australian Trade Mark Search (for trade marks)
- AusPat (for patents)
- PBR Database (for plant breeders rights)
- ADDS (for designs)
Due to equipment and bandwidth limitations, our database search services are not intended to be a source for bulk data downloads. Individuals or other entities who deny or degrade access by other users to our database search services by generating unusually high numbers of daily database accesses (whether manual or automated) may be denied access to these services without notice. A range of bulk data products can be obtained separately from us. Further information about these products is provided below.
IP Government open data products
The IP government open data is the first complete and open national IP register that links IP rights to business numbers in a simple data format. With its release, over 100 years of records held by IP Australia are now publicly and freely available.
The data includes information about IP rights applications that can be matched to individual firms along with information about their size, technology and geographic location.
The IP Government Open Data is freely available on data.gov.au
Plant Breeder's Rights (PBR) data
Plant breeder's rights (PBR) bibliographic data is located in the Intellectual Property Government Open Live Data (IPGOLD) data set, which can be accessed via the following link www.data.gov.au/organization/ip-australia.
Bulk data products
Patent bibliographic data
Patent bibliographic data is available in XML data from 1920 onwards, however only limited data is available from 1920-1979. The data is approximately 460 MB in size. The complete backfile is AU$900, with free regular online updates. As the data is supplied in XML format it requires a purpose built database system, which is not available from us.
Patent specifications are available in PDF format with limited supporting bibliographic data in XML format, from 1904 onwards. The data is approximately 2.4 TB in size. The complete backfile is AU$1800, with free regular online updates. As the supporting bibliographic data is supplied in XML format it requires a purpose built database system, which is not available from us.
All bulk specification subscribers can download the XML version of the Patent Supplemental Journal using your normal bulk specification login.
