Negotiations for the Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (A-EU FTA) have concluded.

The A-EU FTA includes an intellectual property (IP) chapter which provides for effective and balanced protection and enforcement of IP rights.

This chapter reflects our current IP system and also provides for the protection of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Australia.

IP Australia will be consulting on proposed new regulatory arrangements for GIs in due course.

For more information on A-EU FTA outcomes including on GIs, please refer to DFAT’s website.
