We've published our Strategic Corporate Plan 2026–27, which sets out key activities and initiatives to achieve our purpose of enabling Australians to benefit from great ideas through a world-leading intellectual property (IP) system.

Built around our 4 strategic objectives of Impact, Customer, Capability and Innovation, the plan responds to emerging opportunities and challenges, while continuing our focus on delivering high-quality services, supporting innovation and strengthening Australia's IP system.

Focus areas for 2026–27

Some of our key initiatives include:

  • responding to advances in AI through strong governance and accountability
  • implementing IP changes arising from the Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement, including new geographical indications
  • progressing work on our First Nations Strategy and supporting economic empowerment of First Nations peoples
  • supporting the government's productivity agenda for regulatory reform, to free up businesses from unnecessary compliance burden
  • maturing our approach to prevent, detect and disrupt malicious and scam activity impacting users of the IP system
  • improving services, education and guidance to help businesses, creators and innovators make informed decisions about IP.
